Everything in central Pasco passes through Land O' Lakes. US-41, which the county calls Land O' Lakes Boulevard, runs north and south through the middle of it. SR-54 crosses on the south side, SR-52 crosses at Gowers Corner on the north side, and the Suncoast Parkway runs along the west edge with its SR-54 interchange at exit 19. The Pasco Sheriff's Office keeps a complex here on Central Boulevard, and the schools, the plazas and the subdivisions off Collier Parkway and Sunlake Boulevard have multiplied the traffic on all of it.

Conde-Huggins Accident Injury Lawyers handles car accident claims for Land O' Lakes residents from our office on Ridge Road in Port Richey. The consultation is free, there is no attorney's fee unless we win, and we meet you at home or at the hospital. Call (240) 421-5511.

The four places Land O' Lakes car accidents happen

US-41 at SR-54. The heaviest intersection in central Pasco, where two state highways meet surrounded by plazas on every corner. Left turns on a permissive green, red-light running on the SR-54 approaches and rear-end chains in the queue are the three crashes we see here most.

Gowers Corner, US-41 at SR-52. The Pasco MPO has specifically named SR-52 near Land O' Lakes as a corridor where the county's traffic deaths cluster. FDOT's plan to widen SR-52 and realign the two roads at Gowers Corner describes the problem: high-speed approaches, heavy turning volume and a layout that has not kept up.

The Suncoast Parkway ramps at SR-54. Drivers come off a 70-mile-an-hour toll road into a signalized arterial lined with shopping centers. The merge at the bottom of the ramps and the first two signals east of the interchange produce sideswipes and rear-end crashes at speeds that do real damage.

Collier Parkway, Sunlake Boulevard and the plaza driveways. The collectors that feed the subdivisions carry school traffic several times a day and empty onto SR-54 through signals and median openings where drivers turn left across three lanes. With the Ridge Road extension reaching Sunlake Boulevard, Sunlake has become a through route.

Countywide, the MPO's 2022 breakdown counted 4,486 intersection crashes with 308 serious injuries and 33 deaths. The US-41 and SR-54 corridors through Land O' Lakes carry the kind of traffic that produces them.

What the adjuster will tell you, and what Florida law says

"You were partly at fault, so we are reducing the offer." Under Fla. Stat. § 768.81(6), fault does reduce your recovery by your percentage, and bars it entirely above 50 percent. But the adjuster's percentage is an opening position, not a finding. At US-41 and SR-54 there is signal data, plaza video and vehicle event data to establish who had the light and who was speeding, and we obtain all of it before the percentages get discussed.

"PIP will cover you, so you do not need a lawyer." Your own PIP pays 80 percent of medical bills and 60 percent of lost income up to $10,000, regardless of fault, but only if treatment begins within 14 days (Fla. Stat. § 627.736), and only up to $2,500 unless a physician, physician assistant, dentist or nurse practitioner documents an emergency medical condition. Ten thousand dollars does not cover a night at BayCare or AdventHealth Wesley Chapel. Everything beyond PIP is a claim against the at-fault driver.

"Your injury is not permanent." Fla. Stat. § 627.737(2) does require a permanent injury, significant permanent scarring, permanent loss of an important bodily function or death before you can recover pain and suffering from the other driver. Whether you meet it is a medical question answered by your treating physicians, and we make sure they are asked.

"The other driver has no bodily injury coverage." This is often true, because Florida does not require it. The answer is uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage under Fla. Stat. § 627.727 on your own policy or on the policy of a relative you live with. We read every declarations page in your household before we talk numbers.

"There is plenty of time." There is not. A negligence suit must be filed within two years of the crash under Fla. Stat. § 95.11(5)(a). Call (240) 421-5511 now, not next quarter.

Who investigates in Land O' Lakes

Land O' Lakes is unincorporated. The Florida Highway Patrol, Troop C, handles most crash investigations on US-41, SR-54, SR-52 and the Suncoast Parkway. The Pasco Sheriff's Office, whose Public Records Unit sits at 20105 Central Boulevard in Land O' Lakes, responds to many crashes on local roads and generally writes a short-form report without a diagram or narrative.

Either report is confidential for 60 days except to the parties, their attorneys and insurers under Fla. Stat. § 316.066(2). We obtain it through the Florida Crash Portal, and then we build the file the short form leaves out: scene photographs, 911 audio, witness interviews and camera footage from the plazas, which is overwritten in days.

Why a Port Richey firm is close to Land O' Lakes

Our office is at 6609 Ridge Road, Suite 4, in Port Richey. Ridge Road is the road the county extended east from Moon Lake Road to the Suncoast Parkway and Sunlake Boulevard, with the final segment to US-41 scheduled to finish in 2026. When it does, Ridge Road will run from our front door to the center of Land O' Lakes. In the meantime, we drive SR-52 or SR-54 to meet clients at home, at the hospital or at a convenient spot on US-41. No one with a neck injury needs to come to us.

Clementine Conde has practiced in Florida courts since 1992 and is responsible for every case the firm takes. Land O' Lakes cases that go to suit are filed in Pasco County at the West Pasco Judicial Center in New Port Richey or the Robert D. Sumner Judicial Center in Dade City, depending on where in the county the crash occurred, and she appears in both.

Your first steps after a Land O' Lakes crash

  1. Get seen within 14 days, and tell the provider it was a car crash.
  2. Write down the agency on the responding officer's uniform and the report number from the exchange slip.
  3. Photograph your car before it is repaired or totaled, and keep the damaged parts if you can.
  4. Do not give a recorded statement to the other driver's insurer.
  5. Call (240) 421-5511 and let us send the preservation letters.

For the community overview see Land O' Lakes; for the full Florida rules see our car accident page; if the other vehicle was commercial, see Land O' Lakes truck accidents. Our post on SR-54 and SR-52 crashes covers the growth data behind the traffic.

Questions people ask us about land o' lakes car accident cases

I was turning left from US-41 onto SR-54 on a green arrow and got hit. The other driver says the light was yellow. Who wins?

The evidence does. Pasco County and FDOT keep signal timing data for the US-41 and SR-54 intersection, the plazas on every corner have cameras pointed at the road, and both vehicles likely recorded speed and braking in the seconds before impact. We request all of it in the first week. Under Fla. Stat. § 768.81(6) the insurer's goal is to put you above 50 percent fault, where you recover nothing, so the first version of events it hears should come from the evidence, not from a recorded statement.

My crash was at Gowers Corner. Is that a state road or a county road, and does it matter?

Gowers Corner is where US-41 meets SR-52, both state roads maintained by FDOT. It matters only if the road itself contributed, for example a signal malfunction, because a claim against FDOT falls under Fla. Stat. § 768.28 with a notice requirement and a $200,000 per-person cap. In nearly every crash there, the claim that pays is against the driver who failed to yield, backed by your own uninsured motorist coverage if that driver carried no bodily injury insurance.

Can the toll records from the Suncoast Parkway help my case?

Sometimes. The parkway is all-electronic, so SunPass and Toll-By-Plate records place a vehicle at a gantry at a precise time, which can expose a driver who claims to have been somewhere else or going slower than the distance between gantries allows. We request those records with a preservation letter. Parkway crashes at exit 19 are nearly always FHP cases, and the long-form report with its diagram is the starting point.

Land O' Lakes has no hospital. Where should I go after a crash, and does it matter for my claim?

Go to whichever is closest: AdventHealth Wesley Chapel or BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel to the east on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, St. Joseph's Hospital-North on Van Dyke Road in Lutz to the south, or HCA Florida Trinity Hospital on SR-54 to the west. For your claim, what matters is that initial care happens within 14 days (Fla. Stat. § 627.736) and that a physician, PA or nurse practitioner documents an emergency medical condition, which unlocks the full $10,000 PIP medical benefit instead of $2,500.

How long do I have to file a Land O' Lakes car accident lawsuit?

Two years from the crash under Fla. Stat. § 95.11(5)(a) for crashes after March 24, 2023; crashes before that date keep the older four-year period. Wrongful death is two years under § 95.11(5)(e). If a Pasco County vehicle, a GOPasco bus or a school bus was involved, written notice under § 768.28(6) comes first. The useful evidence, especially plaza video, lasts weeks.
