Dade City's 1909 courthouse still stands on the square at 37918 Meridian Avenue, and the county's civil cases are heard a few blocks away at the Robert D. Sumner Judicial Center on Live Oak Avenue. That is the courthouse where a Dade City car accident lawsuit would be filed, and the firm you hire should be one that is prepared to try a case there. Conde-Huggins Accident Injury Lawyers is a Pasco County firm, and Clementine Conde has appeared in Pasco courts since 1992.
We are based on Ridge Road in Port Richey, across the county, and we come to Dade City: AdventHealth Dade City, your home, or anywhere in the northeast. Call (240) 421-5511 for a free consultation. No attorney's fee unless we win.
Where Dade City car accidents happen
US-301 and US-98 through the hills. The two highways run together through the Dade City area, four lanes divided on the approach from Zephyrhills and narrower north of town. Grades, curves and a mix of commuters, trucks and farm equipment make it a corridor the Pasco MPO names among those where the county's fatal crashes cluster.
The US-98 Bypass and its roundabouts. FDOT widened the US-98 Bypass from two lanes to four and built roundabouts along it, including one where US-98 and US-301 meet 7th Street. Roundabouts reduce the severity of crashes when drivers use them correctly. In the first months, local reporting described drivers entering in the wrong direction and fender-benders at the yield lines. A crash in a roundabout turns on who yielded, and the evidence is the position of the cars and the camera on the nearest storefront.
SR-52. The state moved SR-52 onto a new four-lane divided alignment south of San Antonio and Saint Leo in 2023. It delivers traffic to the south side of Dade City at higher speeds than the old road did, and the intersection where it meets US-98 and US-301 handles all of it.
Meridian Avenue and the downtown grid. Meridian Avenue, County Road 52, runs past the police department and the historic courthouse to US-301. The downtown streets are slow and full of pedestrians during the car shows and festivals, and the crashes are low-speed but frequent.
Fort King Road and the two-lane county roads. Fort King Road to the hospital and to Zephyrhills, Bellamy Brothers Boulevard, Curley Road and the roads around Saint Leo University. No shoulders, no lighting, and the lane-departure crashes that the Pasco MPO counted at 3,246 countywide in 2022, with 45 deaths.

What makes a Dade City claim different from a west Pasco claim
Distance to trauma care. AdventHealth Dade City, 13100 Fort King Road, is the local hospital. The nearest Level II trauma center is HCA Florida Bayonet Point in Hudson, on the opposite side of the county, and the Level I centers are in Tampa. Serious east Pasco crash victims are often flown out, and their records are split across two or three facilities. We collect every one.
Rural evidence. A single-vehicle crash on Bellamy Brothers Boulevard at night may have no witness, no camera and a one-page Sheriff's report. The case is built from what is left on the road: gouge marks, debris, tire marks and vehicle data. That evidence washes away. We visit the scene within days.
Rural insurance. Agricultural trucks, farm equipment on the highway, and drivers with state-minimum policies. Florida requires only $10,000 in PIP and $10,000 in property damage liability, so the driver who crossed the center line on US-98 may have nothing to pay you. Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage under Fla. Stat. § 627.727 on your own policy is often what the case is worth, and we read every policy in the household to find it.
If your crash fits any of these, call (240) 421-5511 now. The evidence is the case.
The Florida rules that decide it
- Fourteen days. PIP medical benefits are available only if initial treatment begins within 14 days of the crash (Fla. Stat. § 627.736). Your own policy then pays 80 percent of medical bills and 60 percent of lost income up to $10,000, regardless of fault, with a $2,500 cap unless a physician, PA, dentist or nurse practitioner documents an emergency medical condition.
- The threshold. Pain and suffering from the at-fault driver requires a permanent injury within a reasonable degree of medical probability, significant and permanent scarring or disfigurement, permanent loss of an important bodily function, or death (Fla. Stat. § 627.737(2)). High-speed highway crashes usually qualify; the medical records have to say so.
- Fifty-one percent. Fla. Stat. § 768.81(6) bars recovery for a driver found more than 50 percent at fault and reduces it by any smaller share. On a two-lane road the dispute is who crossed the line; in a roundabout, who yielded. We settle both with physical evidence, not with the other driver's account.
- Two years. A negligence suit must be filed within two years of the crash under Fla. Stat. § 95.11(5)(a). Government vehicles require notice under § 768.28(6) first.
- Medical bill evidence. Under Fla. Stat. § 768.0427, what a jury sees is the amount actually paid or payable for treatment, and letters of protection must be disclosed. How your care is billed affects what the claim is worth, which is one more reason to have a lawyer early.
City police, FHP and the Sheriff
Inside the city limits, the Dade City Police Department at 38030 Meridian Avenue investigates crashes and directs report requests to the Florida Crash Portal. Outside them, which covers most of the US-301, US-98 and SR-52 corridors and all of the rural roads, FHP Troop C handles most investigations and the Pasco Sheriff's Office handles the rest. For 60 days after filing, the report is available only to the parties, their attorneys and insurers under Fla. Stat. § 316.066(2). We obtain it for every client, along with the 911 audio and any body-camera footage.
How we work a Dade City case from Ridge Road
- Meet you at AdventHealth Dade City, a Tampa trauma center or your home. No drive across the county.
- Photograph the scene and the vehicles before the rain and the salvage yard take them.
- Send preservation letters to the other driver's insurer, any employer and the businesses whose cameras face the road.
- Open your PIP and property damage claims so you stop fielding adjuster calls.
- Track your treatment and make sure the permanent-injury question is answered in writing.
- Find every policy, make the demand when your doctors are done, and file at the Sumner Judicial Center if the insurer will not pay what the case is worth.
For the community overview see Dade City; for the complete Florida rules see our car accident page; if the crash was south of town on US-301, see Zephyrhills car accidents. Fatal crashes on the rural roads become wrongful death claims for the family.

Questions people ask us about dade city car accident cases
I was hit inside one of the new roundabouts on the US-98 Bypass. Who is at fault in a roundabout crash?
Usually the driver who entered without yielding. Every entry to the roundabouts FDOT built with the US-98 Bypass widening, including the one where US-98 and US-301 meet 7th Street, is controlled by a yield sign, so a driver already circulating has the right of way over a driver coming in. Wrong-direction entries and lane changes inside the circle are the other common causes. Local reporting in September 2026 described drivers still adjusting to the layout. Under Fla. Stat. § 768.81(6) the insurer will try to split fault, so photograph the vehicles' positions before anyone moves them.
My crash was on US-301 north of town toward Trilby. Was that Dade City police or FHP?
Almost certainly the Florida Highway Patrol, Troop C, or the Pasco Sheriff's Office. The Dade City Police Department at 38030 Meridian Avenue covers only the city limits, and most of the US-301 and US-98 corridor north of downtown is unincorporated. The exchange slip the officer handed you names the agency and report number. FHP writes a long-form report with a diagram; the Sheriff's Office generally does not, which is why our own scene investigation matters more on a rural crash.
I was treated at AdventHealth Dade City and then transferred to Tampa. Does that affect my PIP?
It helps. Florida PIP pays the full $10,000 medical benefit only when a physician, physician assistant, dentist or nurse practitioner documents an emergency medical condition; otherwise it stops at $2,500. An emergency department visit followed by a trauma transfer almost always produces that documentation. The 14-day initial-treatment rule in Fla. Stat. § 627.736 is also satisfied. We collect the records from both hospitals so the chart tells one story.
The other driver was a farm worker in a company truck on SR-52. Does that change my claim?
Yes, for the better. An employer is responsible for an employee's negligence on the job, and under Florida's dangerous instrumentality doctrine the owner of the truck is liable for a permissive driver. Commercial policies carry limits well above a private Florida policy, which may have no bodily injury coverage at all. We identify the employer, the owner and every policy, and we still check your own uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage under Fla. Stat. § 627.727.
How long do I have to file after a Dade City car accident?
Two years from the crash under Fla. Stat. § 95.11(5)(a) for crashes after March 24, 2023, and two years for wrongful death under § 95.11(5)(e). A claim involving a city of Dade City vehicle, a county truck, a school bus or a GOPasco bus requires written notice under Fla. Stat. § 768.28(6) before suit and is capped at $200,000 per person. The roadside evidence on a rural crash lasts until the next rain.
